My travelling policy

Which areas do I cover?

I get a lot of enquiries ask where I am and which areas I cover. I am in the rural village of Bedwyn on the borders of Berkshire and Wiltshire, approx 30 miles west of Reading.

I define the areas I cover in terms of travelling time from here. I’m happy to drive for up to 90 minutes each way from here to fix a boiler.

90 minutes gets me as far afield as places such as Bristol, Salisbury, Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Woking, Guildford, Oxford, Banbury and Aylesbury. I charge my hourly rate for time spent travelling, so the further you are in time, the more a visit will cost.

To explain in more detail, it relates to my guarantee. My  guarantee is one year covering both parts and labour. Even with my best efforts, occasionally a part will fail within the 12 months and when this happens, I just cover the cost myself and return and replace it, free of charge. It just doesn’t happen that often and I build this into my business overheads so it’s all part of the service. I can’t however realistically offer this level of guarantee at locations more than 90 minutes away, so for that reason I decline such call-outs, sorry.

Occasionally I will travel more than 90 minutes each way on the express agreement that should a return visit be necessary (in the event of a component failure, say), even within my guarantee period, the time taken for such return trip will be chargeable regardless. I can see this would be unacceptable to most people though, so I don’t offer it on a regular basis.

London visits:

I generally decline London visits as most parts of London are more than 90 minutes’ travel away so beyond the limit of my travelling policy. Also finding a parking space can be difficult or impossible. If however you live in London, have a legitimate* on-site parking space for my van and are less than 90 minutes from me here in Bedwyn, then I may make an exception! Try me. :)

* By “legitimate”, I mean a space belonging to you and/or when in a parking-controlled area, you can supply a valid visitor parking permit to display in my van.
